The Move/Copy tool is useful for planimetric projects and helping make quick work of drawing repetitive paint lines, manholes, drainages, parking lot features, etc. You can make copies of drawn terrain objects, move them into position, change the anchor location to help snap drawn objects together or help with alignment, and rotate them into place.

Overview

Move/Copy

Copy a drawn object. To copy a drawn object:

  1. Select the drawn object in the viewport and right-click for the mini toolbar.
  2. Select Move/Copy, then move the dotted outline of the drawn object to where you want to place it.
  3. Copy the drawn object with left-click.

Move a drawn object. If you need to adjust where an object was copied or drawn:

  1. Left-click and hold the arrow cross that is hovering next to the selected drawn object.
  2. Drag the drawn object to its intended location.

Anchor

The anchor's location on a drawn object can be moved, allowing you to better align drawn objects when copying them to a new location or make it easier to snap them to other objects.

  1. Select the drawn object.
  2. Grab the anchor dot with a left-click (it highlights in purple).
  3. Move the anchor to your desired location on or around the drawing.
  4. Make a copy by using the anchor's placement to snap the copied object to another drawn object with a left-click.

Rotate

You can combine the Move/Copy tool with Area Select (selects multiple drawn objects) to quickly copy drawings of identical terrain objects like drains, then rotate and move them into place.

  1. Hold Shift and drag a green box around your drawn objects (or use the Area Select tool).
  2. Left click to highlight multiple drawn objects at the same time.
  3. Right-click to access the mini toolbar and select Move/Copy.
  4. Now make a copy of the drawn objects on the next terrain object and rotate/move into place.

Note: You can also change where the drawn object rotates from, by moving the anchor within or around the drawn object.

Tips & Tricks

Compound drawn objects. You can save a lot of time by compounding drawings. Select multiple drawn objects all at once, copy them, then select all the copied objects at once and copy them again. This is especially effective with parking lines. You can also position the anchor to help with alignment and placement of the drawings.

  • This applies well when compounding parking lines:
  • You can also make short work of more complex drawings when selecting multiple drawn objects as one item:
